A man pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Nigeria to try to shoot down an airplane with a bomb in his underwear, defiantly told a federal judge that he, in revenge act for the killing of Muslims around the world and with reference to the explosive rather than “blessed weapon.”
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who works for Al-Qaeda admitted to the bar and has never rejected the allegations, entered the plea against the advice of his lawyer, the second day of his trial. He stands for a mandatory life sentence for 2009 attack on the lives of nearly 300 people on Christmas Day from the sky over Detroit.
Abdulmutallab calmly answered questions from the judge and read a policy statement warning that if the U.S. continues “to continue and promote the blasphemy of Muhammad and the prophets,” there can be “… a great misfortune in the hands of the Mujahideen soon. ”
“If you laugh now about us, we will keep you laughing before the Day of Judgement,” he said.
Abdulmutallab struck more than a year he wanted to plead guilty, but never did. He left his four publicly funded counsel appointed for the presentation of himself with the help of a prominent local lawyer by the court, Anthony Chambers.
In an interview, Chambers said Abdulmutallab renewed his private interest in a guilty plea Tuesday before the start of the study. But it did not happen immediately, because the defendant was not willing to go through the necessary long question and answer with the judges.
